What her business does

I run a catering business specializing in authentic home style Sri Lankan and Indian food for private and corporate events. We also do pop up restaurants at different locations in and around London and every Tuesday we are at the good food market in Piccadilly every Tuesday. Our specialties are hoppers, string hoppers, kottu roti, lamprais, king prawn curry,  king crab curry, gotukola sambola, watallapan and lavaria.

Her business journey and how she arrived at the business idea and started her own business

I had trained as a chef and in pastry and always got compliments about my food so I wanted to start a business putting my skills to use.

What she finds most rewarding about having her own business

Getting really positive reviews about the food I make.

How she approaches being a mum and an entrepreneur

It’s very difficult to juggle kids’ work from Monday to Friday and attend events for the business over the weekends.

The biggest challenges she has faced in her business

A lot of competition from others providing a poorer quality product (Sri Lankan food)

How she overcame those challenges

I compete by keeping my focus on using high quality ingredients and creating artisanal food.

Her accomplishments as an entrepreneur

I catered for an event at the prestigious and beautiful Westminster Abbey, we’ve been featured on Time out London, and last year for the first time we had a New Year’s Dance at The Hilton in London

Advice to mums considering entrepreneurship

It’s hard work but very rewarding
